GET CONTROL

Musculoskeletal disorders can restrict your movements and cause pain if not recognized, assessed, and controlled in time.

These injuries usually occur when the same muscles are used repeatedly without adequate rest. The risk of such injuries increases when high force or pressure is applied, or when movements are repetitive in nature. Awkward posture or poor ergonomics can also be a contributing factor, and prolonged exposure to static or poor ergonomics can increase the risk of injury.

REPETITIVE STRAINS

Repetitive strain injuries (RSIs) occur when the same motion is repeated over and over again, causing pain and discomfort. These types of injuries typically develop gradually and can affect muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves. The chance of developing an RSI increases if the force or pressure exerted is high and/or when the movements are repetitive in nature. Awkward posture or poor ergonomics can also be a cause.

At our clinic, we recognize the impact that repetitive strains can have on the body's muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves. Our team of skilled practitioners can provide assessment, treatment and control of these injuries. We can also help with strengthening and rehabilitation to prevent future injuries.

Have Questions?

Would a trial of evidence-based help my pain?

Adding manual therapy like spinal manipulation to standard medical care has been clinically shown to be a viable, non-invasive and evidence-based approach to managing your spine, muscles, tendons, joints or nervous system-related’ pain and dysfunction.

Is the medication I am taking an opioid?

Some prescription, non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as celecoxib (Celebrex) and diclofenac (Voltaren), may cause some side effects, when compared to over-the-counter NSAIDs, but they will not lead to dependence or addiction.

Is this the lowest dose possible?

It is important not to take a higher dose than you need for pain relief. Start with a small dose and ask your doctor to increase it if necessary.

Be sure to review the full list of prescribed and over-the-counter medications you are taking with your doctor.

What is causing my muscle and joint pain?

Muscle and joint pain often stems from physical trauma, repetitive strain or overuse. It frequently impacts the head, neck, shoulders, back or pelvis. Most people will experience some form of muscle and joint pain in their lifetime.

For example, you may strain muscles moving boxes or overdoing it at the gym. While not all of this discomfort is bad, it’s best to use proper techniques when you do strenuous or repetitive activities.  This extra care helps you prevent disorders and pain.

How do I reduce and manage my pain?

Pain affects the way people work, play and generally live. And a person’s spine, muscles, joints and related nervous system supports every movement they make. Unfortunately, the World Health Organization reports lower back pain as a leading cause of disability worldwide. And a study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal found that back pain was the most common diagnosis for which emergency and family physicians prescribed opioids.

Research demonstrates that we can manage many conditions through patient education, exercise and manual therapies rather than through surgery or medication. And nine in ten Canadians who have used chiropractic care to help with their muscle and joint pain believe that it improved their quality of life.
