Basic Principles of Natural Nutrition

rasperries.jpgWhole: a food that is as close to nature as possible (not processed) has retained most of its intended nutritional value and all of its nutrients are naturally present in the ratios they should be. Nature is smart!

Fresh: when food is cooked, frozen, smoked, cured, dried, etc. It loses some of the nutrients that are present in fresh foods, namely enzymes, which are substances required by every cell of our body

Local: local produce tastes better and is more nutritious because it has traveled much less time to our plates. It also costs less!

Variety: the greater variety of foods we eat, the better we feel! We run lesser risk of becoming sensitized to any one food…and we do not get bored! Feel free to experiment!

The premise of the adoption of a diet rich in natural, unprocessed nutrients, is not a new one. However, in our modern, fast-paced North American lifestyle, we have increasingly fell victim to nutritionally deficient, chemically laden processed foods that do not supply is with the health and vitality that natural, whole foods are more readily able to do.

By choosing to seek the advice and guidance from a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, you can be on the path to making food choices that can help you achieve some of your health goals, and do it in a much more sustainable fashion, that fad-diets or trends do not always succeed in achieving. The belief is that dietary choices can strongly influence general health and wellbeing.

Natural Nutrition is the adoption of a more natural diet that is lower in “bad” fats and refined carbohydrates, and higher in vitamins, minerals and whole, unprocessed foods that are closer to their natural state. Don't worry though, taste is important too!
